40 Malaysian Companies Win Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards 2014

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Nov. 11, 2014Forty companies out of 220 nominees from Malaysia were announced winners of the Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2014.

The Awards, organised by HR Asia Magazine, is based on a proprietary survey developed by HR Asia and encompasses employees’ feedback and input, and management comments and presentation. About 6,000 employees were surveyed covering the issues of engagement, motivation and advocacy.

Based on the survey, the highest scores achieved by the Employers are derived from these three best practices;
1. Instilling a culture of meeting and exceeding customer’s expectations
2. Aligning employees’ KPI with corporate vision and mission
3. Getting employees to contribute to the success of the organisation

Three practices companies need to work on are:
1. Lack of recognition of achievements at work
2. Lack of transparency in decisions that affect the entire organisation
3. Lack of inclusion in decision making process

“Many of the winning companies have workplace practices on par with the best in the world, with most employees enjoying job satisfaction and believing they are providing value to their companies and appreciated for their contributions. Employees feel motivated and empowered to do their best, in order to receive recognition and reward for their efforts,” said Dato’ William Ng, group publisher and editor-in-chief of Business Media International (BMI), the publishers of HR Asia.

The prestige of being recognised with this award is reflected by the enthusiasm of the winners and their continued belief in implementing the best practices in human resource management and development.

Many companies were motivated to strive further upon receiving their award. “Let this award motivate and challenge us to perform our best for UEM Sunrise,” said Kassim Ali, Senior General Manager of UEM Sunrise.

“Let us keep up the good work!” Marc Loh, CEO of Loh&Loh Constructions agreed.

Johari Shukri Bin Jamil, CEO of Tanjung Langsat Port, urged his own team to “continue making a difference that takes us to the next level.”

Vincent Kuan, HR Director of Hartalega added that the award will encourage his team to further improve their ability to attract, develop and retain talent.

Other winners dedicated the win to their hardworking employees. “We are delighted and humbled to win this award, which demonstrates that behind every strong company are its people,” said Dr Jamal Yusof, CEO of Icon Offshore.

Tan Sri G Gnanalingam, Executive Chairman of Westports concurred.

“The success of Westports is a true reflection of the great team effort put forth by the workforce that we have today.”

Datuk Charlie Chia Lui Meng, Group CEO of United Malayan Land extended his thanks to all 400 UMLanders and their very able HR team; while Dato’ Ahmad Zaini Othman, President and CEO of Malaysia Building Society paid tribute to his company’s dedicated, loyal, committed and supportive employees.

Meanwhile RHB Banking Group, Head of Group HR Shared Services, Zamrus Zakaria had this to say, “We are honoured to receive the recognition, and we dedicate this Award to all HR practitioners and employees of RHB.”

“Our sincere thanks to the award organiser, our HR team and to all PHHP family members in making this possible,” added Winston Chen, Group Chief Executive Officer of PHHP Marketing.

The awards rewarded companies for their progressive HR policies and several expressed their pleasure that their efforts were affirmed.

“This award validates Mercedes-Benz’s efforts to be an employer of choice, and recognises us externally as one of the best companies to work for in Asia,” said Norlida Shariff, HR General Manager of Mercedes-Benz.

Pharmaniaga CEO, Mohamed Iqbal Abdul Rahman, agreed. “This award confirms that investing in human capital was the right thing to do.”
