Gently sloping hills, barn houses, quaint cottages, rattling tractors, white fences and the bleating sheep – this is the epitome of a country and western style holiday at a farm ranch. And the sweet thing is that it doesn’t make a dent in your bank account as this farm is located so near in our neighbouring country Thailand.
Located about 160km to the west of Bangkok, Suan Phueng is a highland district in the province of Ratchaburi. Ratchaburi is the province that shares its western border with Myanmar and surrounded by Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Phathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram provinces. As Suan Phueng is located at the mountainous region, it is relatively cooler than the cities in the central plains. Hence, it is a popular weekend destination for the city folks.
When our tour bus ascended the hilly countryside of Suan Phueng, each and every one of us was so amazed by the sights around us. For a moment, I thought we were taken on a time machine to a western country. There were numerous themed resort farms dotting the landscapes of Suan Phueng. As the bus pulled into the Scenery Vintage Farm, sounds of the bleating sheep and rhythms of the country music greeted us. After the sanitizing rituals, we found ourselves mingling with the sheep. Of course, the sheep would love to come after us as we had food for them and it seemed like they wouldn’t stop nibbling at the green leaves. But it was great fun being temporary ‘farm hands’. As the name suggests, the structure and ambience in this resort farm carried the vintage look right from the signage to the barns, the shops, the facilities, farm girls and farm boys, etc. There antique look-alike structures that are put up around the farm are great backdrops for family photos and fun shots. For a quick browse around the farm, visitors my hop on to the tractor ride or pony ride. There is also a small amusement park offering games for kids and adults, with cuddly soft toys (including sheep, of course) as prizes. To cool off the afternoon heat, there is a snack and ice cream shop that sells creamy and smooth ice creams made from sheep milk. At the Sheepie Sheep souvenir shop, it has everything to do with sheep – t-shirts, soap, lotion, etc. Finally, to replenish your energy, the restaurant offers Asian and Western cuisines with fresh brew coffee and an assortment of cakes/drinks.It is certainly a great place for a dose of country and western holiday in lush nature green fields with activities for all in the family.
The Scenery Vintage Farm has done away with their resort accommodations. However, there are also several other resort farms in Suan Phueng that have accommodations. Amongst the resorts in Suan Phueng are Bellissimo Café & Resort, Swiss Valley, and even one that takes after the Flintstones.
