The limelight on Lithium battery once again!
The aviation industry has banned lithium-ion battery in its entirety, regardless of how it is packed.

The United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Tuesday have announced the ban on bulk shipments of lithium-ion batteries as cargo on passenger aircraft, as the potential that lithium batteries might cause in-flight fires persist.

ICAO has mentioned that the temporary ban will last until 2018, until there is a new lithium battery packaging performance standard being adopted. The ban is expected to take effect on April 1, this does not affect the passengers or cabin crew with lithium powered batteries for handheld devices or laptops.

Although this ban has currently no legal effect, most countries have complied with the standards set by ICAO, most passenger airlines have already opted not to accept these shipments.
