Time flies by, easily forgetting about time when you are living in one of the most vibrant city in these part of Iberia peninsula. Its as if God must have poured in his exuberance when he was weaving Madrid centuries before into the beating life it is today.

A melting pot of refined ancient culture, of arts, the greatest in sports and modern beauty. All walks of life flocks to this city to draw inspiration from it.

6. Archeological Museum of Madrid and National Library of Spain

The Archeological Museum of Madrid and the National Library of Spain or better known locally as Biblioteca Nacional de España is located within walking distance of each other, one should allocate a whole day to explore these two very significant and interesting gem on the same day. The exterior facade of these two buildings in itself will keep you busy clicking away for insta-worthy pictures, whatmore the treasures inside.

The Archeological Museum, also known as Museo Arqueológico Nacional de España holds treasures as far back as from the Prehistoric, Egyptian, Celtic, Iberian, Greek and Roman antiquities and medieval (Visigothic, Islamic Spanish and Christian) objects and one of the famed exhibit is the Lady Elche one of the earliest Iberian works of the 4th century BC, with Greek influence.

The library was founded by King Philip V in 1712 as the Palace Public Library (Biblioteca Pública de Palacio) and later on in 1836 was taken over by the Ministry of Governance and re-named with the current name till today. It holds one of the largest archive of documents in the world.

The Archeological Museum is free entry on Saturdays from 2pm to 8pm and the National Library of Spain features expositions and museum which are open from Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sundays and festivities from 10am to 2pm.

7. Cable car of Madrid

What is better than to see Madrid with a bird’s eye view?

A unique journey which begins flying over the Parque del Oeste and La Rosaleda, continues above the old railway station of Príncipe Pío, built in the 19th century and today transformed into an important transport interchange and a large shopping center, and over the hermitages of San Antonio de la Florida, decorated with frescoes by Francisco de Goya. After crossing the Manzanares River and the always busy M-30, it enters the Casa de Campo, the main green lung of the city, to end its journey next to the Plaza de los Pasos Perdidos.

From the cable car the city looks different, on the one hand the old Madrid, the Ministry of the Air, the Egyptian Temple of Debod, the skyscrapers of the Plaza of Spain, the famous “Pirulí” of Torrespaña, the Royal Palace with the gardens of classic style of Campo del Moro at your feet, the Cathedral of Almudena, the Church of San Francisco el Grande with its majestic dome. On the other hand you can also see the most modern face of Madrid, with the Four Towers complex and the Moncloa Lighthouse.

8. Madrid’s latest addition – New Stadium of Atletico de Madrid

The Wanda Metropolitano is easily accessible by metro to the stop of Estadio Metropolitano (line 7 orange). Recently opened in 2017 with 68,000 seats is one of the most modern stadiums in the world. It replaces the former stadium Vicente Calderon and the new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano has been selected to host the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final.

There is a tour available to discover the stadium with a price of 16 euros for adults and 8 euros to people younger than 12 years old. Do not miss this chance of living a unique experience in which you will have the opportunity to be in the dressing room feeling like a real player. Walk the tunnel through which our players go to the field and feel the adrenaline of crossing the access to the field, this moment is especially exciting. 9. Parque Warner Bros Madrid and Parque de Atracciones

For the little ones and for those who love day of adventure in a theme park, Madrid offers days of endless fun at the Warner Bros Park in San Martin de La Vega, with all our beloved Warner bros characters as well as the impressive and modern Parque de Atracciones in the area of Casa de Campo.

Parque de Atracciones is closer to the main happenings in Madrid, located at the edge of Casa de Campo the largest “green lung” in Madrid, formerly once a royal hunting estate. Located nearby is the Madrid Cable Car. Within the attraction is also a Nickelodeon park which is perfect for the little one. Whereas Warner Bros Park is approximately 30 minutes away, perfect to meet your superheroes! both parks have very good reviews from local and international visitors alike.

Most probably you might not be able to cover two parks in a day, unless you want a whirlwind ride through. The best way is to allocate a day for each park!

10. Madrid’s financial area and good shopping

As any other capital of Europe, Madrid also offers financial district located at Nuevos Ministerios. For example Google office is located at the Picasso Tower (Torre Picasso). But this is not only for those who work in the modern skyscrapers: the area also offers one of the largest department stores in the country, el Corte Ingles, alongside a number of famous Spanish fashion stores such as Zara or Mango.

11. Skiing at Puerto de Navacerrada

If you are a ski lover, Puerto de Navacerrada is less than an hour away from the city centre and it offer a compact ski resort offering gentle slopes, equipment rentals & snacks for all the family. The original name for the Puerto de Navacerrada was Puerto de Manzanares, named for the Rio Manzanares (Manzanares River) that runs through Madrid.

Other platform for sporting activities, such as ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing as well as a starting point for alpinism-skiing events, marathons and mountain races.

It is also a busy destination during spring, summer and autumn as there are few picturesque hiking trails which are very popular with the locals. Avid bikers also scale the mountains on the weekends, except of course in winter time.

You are able to access there by train from Madrid town itself. The C-9 line of the Cercanias, a commuter railway that serves Madrid and its surrounding area, will take you directly to the town, where you can find overnight lodging and plenty of outdoor fun. Chances are you will have a lot of company from the local Madrilenos looking to hit the slopes.
