DEEP DIVE INTO ANCIENT LAN NA THAI.NORTHERN THAILAND

IN THESE day and age, there is a birth to a wide variety of traveler. The Kingdom of Lanna as it is formerly know, has one of the most pleasant weather towards end of the year.
The temperature drops and its as if you are in the spring throes of Europe (for those who traveled Europe, you do know springtime can still be a little chilly). The beauty is certainly a sight to behold, different from its more famous star-city Bangkok or even the warmer south side of Thailand. Blessed with a green carpet of mountainous view, it certainly exudes a calm mysterious aura. Here in the Northern parts, Northern Thai is spoken known as “Lanna or Kham Mueang”, although English is widely spoken in hotels and businesses.

Wat Chedi Luang

Built in the 14th century, it might not be the most glittering of the other “Wat” , but it most certainly is one of the first largest and tallest in terms of square meters and height in total, the chedi measures about 60 meters square across at the base and 80 meters tall. The ancient facade of Wat Chedi Luang gives it a “Lara Croft” aura to it. It was once home of the famed Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most sacred relic currently housed in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew. You can find a replica carved out of black jade, equally intriguing here at Wat Chedi Luang.

Doi Inthanon National Park

One of the most important highlights of the Lan Na Thai lands, Doi Inthanon National Park was established as recent as 1972, but the highland itself has been known as the roof of Thailand for many eons ago. Housing the highest peak of Thailand which is also part of the Himalayas rising 2,565 meters above sea level, here one will experience a rich cultural diversity of the Karen and Meo Hmong people. Spending a few days here would be ideal to soak in the sights, sounds and heart of north Thailand. But if you have limited time, then a day’s allocation is a must!

Walk through the Angkha nature trail, visit the Hmong market for fresh local produce, Mae Klang Lunag Village is a sight to behold of the tiered paddy fields, not forgetting to taste the rich aroma of local coffee. Be refreshed and mesmerized by the Wachirathan waterfall and last but not least, the magnificent view of the Chedi’s of the King and Queen. A botanical beauty has been dedicated to Queen Sirikit, Inthanon Royal Project Flower Garden is as as Majestic as the name it has been bestowed with. There are two holy relics pagoda on highest point of of Doi Inthanon national park, Phramahathat Napamathanidol and Phramahathat Napaphol Bhumisiri. 1st one was built to commemorate the 60th birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol on 5th December 1987 and the build on 12th August 1992 to honor Queens Sirikit 60th birthday.

Wat Rong Khun

Traveling to Chiang Mai, one must also cover Chiang Rai which is three hours from Chiang Mai. The highlights which one can’t miss out is the famed White Temple. Certainly different from all the other temple in Thailand, in fact it is the only one as such, a contemporary work of art, unconventional, and it is privately-owned art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple in these most northern tip.

Singha Park

Surely the signature has graced Singha beer, which lovers of Thailand’s smooth beer can immediately identify with. Indeed opened by the same maker, but over here you are able to instead enjoy the agro culture and diverse activities. Because of the superb weather of the north, makes for an ideal destination of all-year-round exhibiting of rich flora. But that’s not all, perhaps feed Giraffe’s!! It is pretty hard to encounter and able to feed giraffes in South East Asia! Hence this is a great opportunity, especially for families with children. An experience which to be sure your children will not stop raving.

Join in the Elephant Parade and paint your own DIY elephant! Wait don’t crucify the editor for even suggesting activities involving elephants! Hear me out. This is actually an elephant sanctuary for all elephants saved, and of course those baby elephants who are orphaned. Here there are no elephant rides, you just feed them and they do not have to perform for you! Hence they are not beaten or abused into performing! Any visit here is a contribution to the preservation of these intelligent creatures. After all the saying of “an elephant never forgets” is certainly true!
