    Story has it that one day, when Tan Kim Hock was busy collecting the coconut sap for his coconut palm sugar on his routine work, he noticed it was a cloudy day and rain would be imminent. To prevent raindrops and insect entry, he carefully covered it with coconut fiber and hung the last bamboo container on his belt and hurriedly climbed down from the treetop. Unfortunately, he was caught in the rain and ended up soaking wet.

    To avoid catching cold, he prepared some ginger soup to warm himself. In so doing, he has unintentionally added some freshly-made coconut palm sugar into the ginger soup without realising that he has created a new recipe of spicy ginger and fragrant coconut palm sugar.
