Stories from the Northeast side of Japan

Tohoku is the northeast region on the most northern part of Honshu, consisting of a total of six prefectures. They are Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata and Fukushima Prefecture. Landscaped pointing from north-south direction, located on the west of the Sea of Japan, towards the Pacific Ocean where Ou Mountain runs in it’s centre.

Northeast has a “little Japan” title, this is because the few prefectures such as Aomori and Akita of the northeast side are still based on traditional agriculture as its main source of productivity, not replacing these traditional economies with modern development, therefore being able to retain a part of old Japan essence in its trade. Making a trip to these parts will enable you to have a glimpse in the past, experiencing this rare Japanese traditions.

During the fall season in the northeast, it is must to see the Oirase stream, “Fall” in love with the beautiful scenery of Lake Towada, not forgetting to mention that Aomori is known as the largest Apple producer in the whole of Japan. Hence it is a must to taste!
