Akanko (Lake Akan) and Akan Ainu Kotan – Experience Hokkaido’s Fall Season ②

There are about roughly 36 stores and approximately 130 Ainu residences located at the Akan Ainu Kotan, known as the Hokkaido’s largest Ainu tribe settlement in Japan. Here in the main street on both sides, you will find an array of localized arts and crafts shops, restaurants and ethnic handicrafts depicting the spirit animals of the tribe such as the wise owl, which are lovingly carved out of wood by hand and embroidered product as well. Handmade jewellery as well as local ethnic stringed instruments such as the Mukkuri of the Ainu, a harmonica and etc. The Akan Ainu Kotan is very popular with tourists!
