When the cold winter slithers away, the warmth of the spring sets off the blooming of flowers…… The season has come, let’s go to Korea for a dose of spring blossoms!
In Malaysia where we have a summer-like climate all-year-round, most of us do not feel the significance of a spring season probably because we are always surrounded by flowers and greens. But in countries with four distinct seasons, the approach of Spring is a significant affair!
From end of March until early June, it is the spring season in Korea. With the ending of the harsh winter, young buds breathe new life on the earth sprouting fresh leaves and vibrant blooms. This is the time, the best season to travel!
Come February every year, the Koreans eagerly anticipate the arrival of the spring rain for it means the spring blossoms will follow suit. Then it is a flurry of flower appreciations and a charming Korea view in early spring.
The flowering season generally blooms from the south and gradually spreads to the north, starting from Jeju Seogwipo in the southernmost tip of the South Korean peninsula. In the warmth of the southern air, spring flowers bloom one after another – cherry blossom, plum blossom, camellia just to name a few.
If you wish to relish the flowers of Korea, take a trip to places like Seoul, Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeju, etc. where the most beautiful flower havens are.
In Seoul, the cherry blossom tunnel of Yeouido is the signature attraction. The street is lined with more than 1,400 cherry blossom trees which are about 30-40 years old. Every April when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, more than 250 million visitors stroll through this tunnel of magnificent flowers.
On the other hand, the annual cherry blossom festival of Gyeongsangnam-do Jinhae is a world class celebration attracting a huge crowd. With more than 220,000 cherry blossom trees blooming, the entire Jinhae city is a mesmerizing picture.
As Jeju Island is located at the southernmost tip of Korea, spring usually comes early by the end of February when the rape seed gradually flowers. By March and April when the rape seeds are in full bloom, the entire Jeju Island is filled with bright yellow flowers.
At the same time when the flowers are in season, South Korea celebrates the spring season with many festivals that are traditional, cultural and recreational or sports in nature. The beautiful spring is enjoyed in many ways.
Apart from cherry blossom and rapeseed flowers, there are many other multi-hued flowers blooming in Korea.
