After relishing on a big dose of leisure farms at the Nantou County of Central Taiwan, I opted for a different itinerary when I came to Miaoli County. As Miaoli is sandwiched in between the bustling Taichung County and the industrialized Hsinchu County, it has a good network of roads. Hence, it is a very convenient and popular place for weekend getaways. I found that Miaoli has different itineraries to offer apart from the hot springs, leisure farms, handicrafts and flower blossoms.
I went to the country-side traversing the mountains on long and winding roads that offers cool crisp air and breath-taking views. In this one day trip, I had a sampling of experience making my own chocolates, savouring bites with strawberry fillings and flavours, understanding the process of distilling essence, walking down the historical railway track, and so on. The mountain road took me on a day trip to the leisure farms around Dahu district and the breath-taking views of Carp Lake Reservoir, before ending at the nostalgic railway station at Sanyi district.
Well, for convenience sake, I went in a hired car with a driver and that saved me quite a bit on waiting time. In Taiwan, travelling in a hired car is a popular option especially to
outskirt areas. Of particular mention is the attitude of the Taiwanese in the service industry – they are always pleasant, accommodating and patient. Mr. Li is not only a courteous taxi driver but also a great knowledgeable guide. He can be contacted at http://www.wretch.cc/blog/wishcar579/994161
