Malaysia 28 February 2012 – Japan’s tourism saw sharp declines in visitor arrivals in 2011 which can be attributed in part of the March 11 massiva earthquake and tsunami that hit the north eastern region of Japan. The total number of the international tourist arrivals fell by 27.8 percent from 8.6 million arrivals in 2010 to 6.2 million in 2011.

The Fukushima Prefectural Government said Monday that residents in three municipalities near its crippled nuclear plant were exposed to as much as 23 millisieverts of radiation in the four months after the meltdowns triggered by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The estimated radiation is unlikely to cause any adverse health effect.
