To those who have already booked and paid for your up-coming travels in June or July during the summer time seasons, are practically counting down days to our departure day! Ah the summer season is truly a wonderful time which is looked forward to by the children especially, as there are almost three weeks of no school! What more when mummy and daddy has promised them a holiday to an amazing destination. No more homework or exams for now!

Even though we are living in Malaysia, a tropical country 365-days-all-year-round, of so called hot and humid weather, we tend to think we know “all” about holiday packing for a summer weather. Well you can’t be more wrong. Well ladies and gentlemen, here are 5 important things to pack for a summer holiday! Trust the experts, as you do not want to be disappointed, upon arrival at your holiday destination!

1. Cardigans, Wrap, Pashminas, A Light-wind-breaker . . .

Here in Malaysia, whenever we think about visiting a “mamak”, it will never cross our minds to bring along a cardigan, a jacket or a little wrap. But do not let this assumption fool you into thinking that summer seasons out of Malaysia, is the same as back home. Always travel prepared! Pack a light cardigan, a wrap or a light-wind-breaker when you are traveling overseas, and especially for the little ones if they are tagging along for the trip. As the summer nights can get quite chilly for us Malaysians!

Not only are the nights chilly during summertime, many tour spots do include visiting to high-altitude destination. Some destinations might even have snow all year round! Hence packing these essentials are important. You do not want to be caught with a cold or a fever, during your summer holiday travels.

Bring a long a warp or even a light cardigan for your summer travels.

A pashmina is great for summers too. It can help with a blow of chilly wind. Or even shade you from extreme sunshine.

2. Sunscreen & Sunnies

Yes, despite we Malaysians can brave the sun 365 days a years, and its frankly a norm here to dash about without sunscreen or sunnies. We would strongly advice for you to pack these two very important items. Bear in-mind you are now on a holiday, and will be outdoors more often then when you are back home. Slather on some sunscreen, even for the men, this is to prevent sunburn or cracked skin which can be really uncomfortable. As for sunnies it is a must, as it shields your eyes and you can enjoy the sights of attraction better than having to squint your eyes.

Sunscreen and sunnies are mandatory during summer.

3. Lip-balm and Moisturizer

Summer in Europe for example could be a literal dry affair. You might not feel it upon arrival, being mesmerized by the cloudless bright blue skies, the sunshine and the greens around. The days are longer too, hence one tends to spend lots of time outdoors.Now this is why all the more you need to constantly put on lip-balm and don’t forget moisturizers, hand creams and such. The air is much more drier in Europe, comparing to our humid Malaysia. When the lips crack, that is when the really unpleasant feeling begins. Imagine wanting to taste the delicious local meals, and every time getting a reaction out of those cracked lips? So don’t forget to pack them!

Dear Men, do not leave out lip-balm for your summer travels. They are equally as important.

4. Umbrella, Disposable raincoat or a Hat!

Remember to pack these items, a light weight fold-able umbrella or a disposable raincoat and a hat. It can help in both weathers, be it in extreme sunshine and during the showers. Will it rain in summer? Yes, in certain destination, during summer it might rain on certain days. You do not want to catch a flu from being drenched in rain during summer on a holiday. At the same time, if the destination, one visits does not rain, an umbrella or a hat could keep you from a heatstroke/sunstroke perhaps! It’s important to always take care of yourself during a holiday.

Do not look down on the humble umbrella … it could be your life saver!

Or even the raincoat … it might just save your fashion wear of the day.

Of course we do not want the little ones to suffer, during the holiday. Therefore lets ensure they are properly insulated when the need arises.

5. Good Walking Shoes and your Fashionable Flats!

Don’t abandoned your shoes for only flip flops, both are equally important during summer. At the same time, summer travels are fun in away as this is the time you can be fashionable with your footwear! Albeit bear in-mind you must also pack good walking shoes, as you would be doing a fair bit of walking, hiking (depending on your choice destination), and exploration. Summer footwear are the easiest to pack, as it is not bulky and light, allowing you to bring more than two pairs of footwear! These are important things to pack for summer travels. Certainly do not want to be one of those travel companions who gets left behind sitting in a corner cafe, while waiting time to past, due to an aching feet . . .

Flats are a must during summer. How else would you feel it is summer?

It is also a time where you can show off your flats.

Don’t forget to pack a pair of good hiking shoes for your tours. The feet are also the most important you would want to take care off!
